We had our second appointment today. We got told that everything is going well, and that all the donations Jen made at the vampire's den came back fine. And then we got to hear the baby's heartbeat! I can't say in words how surreal this whole experience has been so far, but this is one of those moments that makes me do a little dance! I literally had to stifle the urge to dance all the way out of the doctor's office.
Ok, my turn...since my name is on the blog too, and I am the one who is currently carrying the nugget around. So far, this has been an incredible whirlwind of almost 13 weeks, and I know that the fun is only just beginning. I have been tired (read exhausted), nauseous (read ALL the time), and feeling as though I have lost all control of my body (read, I only have 3 pairs of pants that fit right now, turning over in the morning to hit the snooze has been a little too much excitement for 6 AM, and me, the world traveler, has developed a wicked case of motion sickness when riding in the car across town). And then there are moments like today with getting to hear the heartbeat where all of that is forgotten and the joy of the situation is so intense that I really don't even know how to describe or process.
Chris has been the best throughout all of this! His posts definitely do not tell the story of his excitement and enthusiasm (although his camera work during the filming of the heartbeat today does!). He has taken such great care of me and is always asking what he can do to help. Up to this point, that has involved bringing me saltines and ginger ale in the morning and holding my hair back, as well as making my daily portable dry pantry of snacks and goodies, cleaning the cat box, and doing lots of the more smelly things around the house, like dishes, scrubbing toilets, painting projects, and feeding the cats their wet food. He is amazing. I love him more and more every day and definitely could never imagine doing this with anyone else.
It has been fun to tell everyone about the baby and see the different reactions we have gotten. Both sets of parents are thrilled and have been so excited every time we have talked, even my dad, who is not traditionally a big talk on the phone kind of guy. We sent pictures of the first ultrasound, and my brother's response was that he now understood why we were calling it the nugget. Chris' parents have been keeping the ultrasound picture on the fridge and apparently switching every so often between a pink and blue frame. There have been several people at school who said they knew, and some who immediately guessed it when I said I needed to tell them something. One friend, who had a baby in January, burst into tears (oh, the hormones that linger and the things I have to look forward to)! We have also gotten some interesting reactions upon telling people that we don't really want to find out if it is a boy or girl. Some people have been very excited and think that it will be fun to guess and create baby pools at work. Others can't understand how we will be prepared and know what to buy. We just think that there are so few surprises left in life that we should enjoy this one!
I think that is as much update as I can handle for tonight. The nugget wants dinner, and I have learned that whatever nugget wants, nugget gets. Demanding even at this young age...Oh, we are in for the ride of a lifetime! We are so excited to share it all with you!
Best sound ever to a mommy and daddies ears! Believe me when I say that sound will carry you through the third trimester.
ReplyDeleteIt's so neat that you guys are keeping the big question a surprise! I would have loved to have had the strength to do it.
