Happy 4th of July!

I can't believe that it is time for another rendition of "My first..."! (Nor that there are really not that many "My firsts" left!!). But here you have it, Graham's first 4th of July. Sorry to report that it was, all things considered, rather uneventful. We went to Graham's first pool party and BBQ on Saturday! (Thanks again Crofts!) Graham LOVED the pool, and he had a great time showing off for all the other party-goers!

On the morning of the 4th of July, we walked to Bruegger's seeing as Tallahassee is sans parade for the day?!? We also spent some time in Graham's wading pool and got a little tired out!!

That evening, we headed over to our friend Fred's for another BBQ and fireworks. The time with friends was great, and the food was fabulous! However, by the time, the fireworks rolled around, Graham was beyond tired and so overwhelmed! He watched for a few minutes, getting more and more anxious and upset. As the sounds of the fireworks got louder, so did Graham! He was just NOT impressed! So, he and I went back inside, sat in the rocker, and happily watched the Macy's fireworks on TV before falling sound asleep!
While the day was fun, I am always a little let-down by the 4th of July in Tallahassee. I think I was incredibly spoiled growing up in Urbandale where the July 4th celebration takes on a life of it's own, beginning in June! Each year that we are not able to be "home for the holiday", I am always a little sad. Sure we are guaranteed to be able to spend the day at the beach of pool and we have gotten to see lighted boat parades and fireworks over the Gulf of Mexico, but nothing can quite compare with the unpredictable Iowa weather (Usually warm, but I distinctly remember a 4th of July while in High School wherein flannel shirts and jeans were required attire), the Urbandale parade, the carnival at Lion's Park, sno-cones from the boy-scout booth, and of course, the fireworks!!! Perhaps next year we can make the trip to Iowa over the 4th and give Graham a proper introduction to the 4th of July. Maybe we can even call a do-over and make that his first 4th of July!! Do you think they make "My first" onesies for 20 month olds?
